Buddy Cole is the quintessential bon vivant. Wilder than Oscar, less cowardly than Noel, and gorier than Vidal, this ageless caf society lizard was not always the world-weary philosopher playboy he is today. First discovered by the Kids in the Hall in the gay Nineties, he soon became a regular on their TV show, and his hilarious and provocative monologues quickly endeared him to a generation. Now it's time for a new generation to find out what everyone else has been saying for years - Buddy Cole is the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and in many ways, still the prettiest.
Buddy hails from Northern Quebec, the twenty-third child of pig farmers. Born February 29, 1960 on a leap year, this eleven-year-old ball of fire had a childhood filled with love and adventure, yet touched by tragedy? like the time his father choked to death on a fishbone from the same fish, ironically, that had saved Buddy from drowning in a freezing lake earlier that day. Buddy left home at the age of 16 -- after his mother died on stage in one of his own productions - to pursue an acting career into Toronto. But because of his homespun beauty, he was constantly sidetracked into the seductive world of male-modeling. Buddy traveled the world, leaving a trail of happy holes and broken hearts.
"I was the top male model for an Egyptian line of jeans," he recounts. "My face and figure were plastered on billboards all over the Middle East. And still the fighting continued."
Eventually, Buddy finally decided to make a career of his greatest love, drinking, so he moved to Toronto and bought a gay bar.
