Carlos Mencia

Carlos Mencia Biography

One of the most popular comedians in the country, Carlos Mencia has the rare gift of insightful perception and precise delivery when addressing a variety of subjects, including people's inability to laugh at themselves. He represents the internal voice inside us and demands we admit to thinking what he says out loud.

Mencia has become known for his two solo HBO specials, one of which received a CableACE Award nomination, and as host of the groundbreaking series, "Funny Is Funny" (Galavision). He was also a guest host on back-to-back episodes of NBC's "Later" and his first appearance on "The Tonight Show" received a standing ovation. His additional television credits include a recurring role opposite Tommy Davidson in Hyperion Pictures' animated series, "The Proud Family" on the Disney Channel, as well as guest-starring roles on both "The Shield" and "The Bernie Mac Show." In addition, he starred in his own original half-hour special for Comedy Central, "Comedy Central Presents Carlos Mencia," and has been seen on such shows as CNBC's "Dennis Miller," ABC's "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher," HBO's "Loco Slam" and "Comic Relief VI."

On the big screen, Mencia's film credits include "29 Palms" and "Outta' Time," in which he co-starred with Mario Lopez. Mencia starred opposite Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in "The Heartbreak Kid," a DreamWorks film directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly and, most recently, "Our Family Wedding" with co-stars Forest Whitaker and America Ferrera.

"The Three Amigos," a tour Mencia headlined, was so successful it sparked the interest of industry execs and prompted Miramax Films to fund the taping of three sold-out performances as well as behind-the-scenes footage. The DVD of this film was released by Disney. StudioWorks Entertainment released his first retail DVD, "Carlos Mencia: Not for the Easily Offended Live in San Jose." The next year Mencia completed "The Punisher Tour," a sold-out headlining stand-up tour of over 60 cities. The tour sold more than 270,000 tickets, making it the biggest tour of any Latino comedian to date.

"Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached -- Live, Extended and Uncensored" was a stand-up special taped in front of a live audience at San Francisco's Warfield Theater. The DVD, which features the original performance as seen on-air and an extended performance with 20 minutes of never-before-seen additional material, became the first stand-up DVD release from Comedy Central Home Entertainment to be certified platinum.

Carlos Mencia's most recent stand-up special," Performance Enhanced " was held in front of a packed house at a Hard Rock Hotel theatre in Florida. He talks about his trip to Iraq, his real feelings on the N-word and just about everything else that pops into his head. Carlos was also host of the Comedy Central show, "The Mind of Mencia," for four seasons, relentlessly taken on topics such as ethnic stereotypes, race relations and immigration.
