Theater, television and film dot David Alan Grier's past, and his ability to excel in all three mediums is a testament to the man's inherent sense of comic timing. In October 2009, Grier released his book (co-written by Alan Eisenstock) "Barack Like Me: The Chocolate-Covered Truth," in which the comedian discusses politics, culture and race while recounting his own life story.

Trained in Shakespeare at Yale, Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in "The First," for which he earned a Tony nomination in 1981. He then joined the cast of "Dreamgirls," and later went on to star opposite Denzel Washington in "A Soldier's Play," with both actors continuing their roles in the film version, "A Soldier's Story."

His television work is highlighted by a turn as principle cast member on "In Living Color," where he helped create some of the show's most memorable characters, and as a co-star on Bonnie Hunt's hit ABC comedy, "Life With Bonnie."

Recently, David created, wrote and executive produced a show for Comedy Central called "Chocolate News," and finished up a run on "Dancing With The Stars." Grier didn't hang up his dance shoes either – he was featured in the Wayans Brothers' spoof movie "Dance Flick," which hit theaters in May 2009.
