Actor, writer and producer Dave (Gruber) Allen began his career in comedy on stage at Larry Wrentz's Comedy Club in Des Moines, IA, with the sketch group "Don't Quit Your Day Job." After moving to Los Angeles, "Don't Quit Your Day Job" renamed themselves "The Higgins Boys and Gruber" and became a popular local comedy trio. Since 1989, Gruber has written for and performed in a variety of stage and television comedies. Fans of Gruber's "Freaks and Geeks" character Jeff Rosso will be glad to know that The Naked Trucker is quite similar to Rosso minus the wardrobe.
Gruber's credits include guest appearances on "Mr. Show with Bob and David," "Third Rock from the Sun," "NewsRadio," "Tenacious D," "Malcolm in the Middle," "Real Time with Bill Maher," "Yes, Dear," "Frasier," "King of the Hill" and "The Gilmore Girls."
Gruber and David Koechner performed regularly at club Largo in Los Angeles where they honed their act and created the popular stage show known as "The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show." The show developed a devout following and created a buzz that led to their performances at the COMEDY CENTRAL stage, and ultimately "The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show," which they write, executive produce and star in on COMEDY CENTRAL itself.
Gruber grew up in Naperville, IL and graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island. His college career began with a vague idea to go into medicine and ended up with a B.A. in English. Most likely, it is for the best that people can hear "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Naked Trucker and T-Bones..."as opposed to "Dr. Gruber will see you now."
