Henry Phillips Biography

"What I take from life, I give back through my art." So says singer, songwriter, Henry Phillips, whose hilariously cynical take on our bizarre world has made him a favorite on the national comedy club circuit. Combining innocent melodies that smack of cool sincerity with twisted, psychopathic lyrics and taboo-smashing refrains, the native New Yorker has been referred to as "the funniest young singer-songwriter to come our way in quite a while" by the King of novelty music himself, Dr. Demento.

"I ALWAYS used to write serious, heartfelt songs, but no one ever wanted to listen, so I started twisting the lyrics", offers Henry, whose sensitive writing style bespeaks a man so tormented and confused by the quandary of life, he doesn't even realize that people are laughing at him. Henry has now performed his bizarre songs all ove the country, and even the world. He has been featured on Comedy Central, NBC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', and even a live music show from England called 'The Tube' with Paul McCartney. Henry has two nationally released CDs, receives airplay on nationally syndicated radio shows, and has a documentary film which was exhibited at the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival. Dramalogue magazine compared him to "early Dylan...with a young man's sardonic eye," while the Los Angeles Times sees Henry as a "twisted, comedic, version of Dan Fogelberg."

After all these years of identity searching, Henry finally seems to have found himself. As he once said in a moment of quiet reflection, "I was right here all the time".
